Getting back to PC gaming what do you recommend to pick up and play.

Thanks to Asus i am getting a new PC finally and my ten year old Q6600 is finally being put to bed....
i have been slipping out of PC gaming for years now as i have just never pursued upgrading my main machine.... but i am going to be back in the running again

So i need PC game recommendations that people like over the last year or so.

I already know Quake Champions is getting a look and in and so is Overwatch

but seriously anything any one can give me a recommendation on games i would have missed and not played.

Any ideas please let me know, Thanks.

The latest Doom as a single player. Only played a few rounds on Quake Champions then uninstalled it. Sad to see Bethesda going down the route of loot boxes and shit.

Dishonored and Dishonored 2 for SP. R6 siege if you prefer slow MP games, OW if you like frantic ones. This war of mine for a thoughtful number, Dirt Rally for, er, Rally. Her Story for a bit of interesting problem solving, Cities: skylines for SimCity game. Planet Coaster for rollercoaster tycoon. Divinity: Original Sin 2 for RPG. Frostpunk for isometric survive em up, Monster Hunter world if you like that kind of thing. Wow is still grinding on, as is Eve.

Battle Royale seems to have been the zeitgeist for the last year or so, so you might give PUBG or Fortnite a whirl, see what all the fuss was about.

Depends what kind of games you enjoy, Far Cry 5 for me is a must in the recent games, PUBG as mentioned is good for a multiplayer anger session.

I think Farcry 5 is a must thanks,
I gave Fortnite a whirl on the PS4 not great at it .... kinda suck actually ... But PUbG does seem appealing
I like the more serious aspect of gameplay tbh.

Cities Skylines looks awesome so defiantly giving that a look as well. i loved the older Sim Cities.

I did play This War of Mine on the PS4.... damn that game was hard to play a few times as i felt so gutted when i managed to get every one killed!
Good advice thank you definitely got me thinking

Single player: Wolfenstein games are all epic. Alien Isolation was awesome. Alternatively completely waste your new hardware on indie games like FTL, Rimworld, Into The Breach.

X-Com 2 is excellent. I've also thoroughly enjoyed Endless Legend , a really good fantasy 4x. Total Warhammer.

No Mans Sky - It's not the game they promised at release and it's fantastic. Very addictive space exploration game with Minecraft vibes. If you're not interested in survival games though this may not be for you.

Planet Coaster - Amazing Theme Park management game made by the guys that did RCT3. Ridiculous levels of customisation allow you to create pretty much whatever you want if you have the skill and patience. Just see the below video for an idea:

Path Of Exile - Free to play Diablo-like game. Far better than anything Diablo 3 does, with a very fair business model that makes you WANT to spend money rather than need to.

Warframe - Ridiculously fast and intense 3rd person shooter. Again, completely free to play with a fair business model. They do have some shitty practices in their f2p model but you dont have to spend money at any point. Everything you can buy is earnable through ingame play.

Darkest Dungeon - Relentlessly depressing and difficult side-scrolling dungeon crawler roguelike. Fantastic aesthetic with stong Lovecraftian overtones.

They ditched the real money auction house a long time back. We've been doing season 14 over the past couple of weeks and the only shit I've seen that you can actually buy is the necromancer (about a tenner to 18 quid depending on where you get it, but it can still fuck off for one class) and a kind of starter pack at 18 quid with a pet and some other cosmetics.

Alien Isolation - along with Outlast the only two games I've played where I actually (almost) shat myself playing them. Outlast especially

"The Forest" rocks - proper cave man survival shit with cannibals and stuff - been playing that virtually every night and for 15 snots its a steal tbh. And you might shit yourself playing it as well (don't walk around the place at night...) so it's a win all round really. Multiplayer owns but join a private server - Endnight have fucked up by allowing mods that can't be blocked by the server OP so running a public server is a fucking nightmare. Best to team up with people on steam and go private - i play with a few guys and we have a right laugh.

Elite Dangerous - a bit meh. Loads of stuff to do, but once you've done trading, mining blah blah it gets a bit samey.. haven't played it in ages and tbh at the moment I'm not that arsed. Until you can get out of the ship and start running around shooting shit - like Star Citizen I'll be leaving it alone. Speaking of SC - i'd say thats a massive waste of cash, it has it's moments of "ooh fuck me look at a that" - but there's tons still missing from the game so it visually looks nice compared to ED but ED win's on having way more to do. And of course, in time ED's visuals will catch up...

BF1 is a possible buy but i'd say wait for BF5 - yes I know some of you lot would rather take a shit than play either of them but I still like them. On a good rig they both look amazing and yeah there's the "COD" thing that people label them with but I personally put them leagues apart. COD couldn't be more scripted if it fell out of the script tree and wrote a fucking book on the way down. At least BF gives you the arena to play in and leaves you to it... multiplayer I think wipes the floor with COD is is by far the best FPS i've played in recent times.

Star Wars BF2 - just don't.

Seriously.

Still in two minds whether to give BF5 a go? Now I've got my new pc up and running, I was going to buy PUBG, but it seems to be losing players because of cheaters, and not being finished. Haven't seen many on here still bothering with it, besides devs? Bought the latest Doom last week, first game I've bought myself in a long time, so I've been watching this thread for recommendations.

BF1 was a massive letdown for me, but I am looking forward to BFV. I've ordered a new PC myself so I'm keen to see how it looks on my aging GTX 770 (bit too skint to buy anything beefier atm)

Games

Quake champions is fine, just needs more work. Dishonored games are good and if you like the RPG games then Dragon age and Skyrim are good to play. Play Fortnite a lot and it is free to play , who here has it ?.

Quake live is old and dated and offers nothing new, only for those stuck in the past thinking it has a future, try moving on.

For pure shit your pants moments its hard to beat - some of them remind me/are a bit like the film Evil Dead.

Similar situation for me where I upgraded my PC about 7 months ago for the first time in about 8 years.

I was trying to play through all the big games i've missed out on but Witcher 3 and the expansions has taken up 100+ hours and when I only get about an hour a day that's more or less the last 4 months of my time! It often comes up in deals to buy cheap and i've really enjoyed it.

X-Com 2 I really enjoyed and want to check out the expansions when I get chance.

I thought Doom was one of the best games i've played in years although i've not found much replay value in it. I really liked some of the old school gameplay elements and that it actually felt like some skill was required.

I tried Wofenstein: The New Order based on reviews and thought it was utterly awful and pretty much summed up everything which is wrong with modern games. Too much dialogue and too many cut scenes interrupting the bog standard action.
