Microsoft jump on music downloads bandwagon

It seems Bill Gates has been listening to too much Queen and has decided that he wants it all. CNet news has reported that Microsoft have unveiled plans for its own music downloads store, despite having said it has no such plans when rivals Apple opened their own store, iTunes, last year.

Expected to launch in 2004, MSNs download store will send shockwaves through the rest of the music downloads business. Whilst things will have changed by the time it comes into being, Microsoft's reach will mean that it will make a significant impact. Considering iTunes itself runs on Windows software, Microsoft already have a base to build on. The competition is heating up, but Bill Gates has money to burn.
