Tomb Raider - 5/10 - Interesting semi-twist at the end, but the only person even trying to act was The Goggins™

Seriously how hard is it to do a good Han Solo, when Firefly has already fleshed out the character archetype properly?

to Ashen [ash-en]

1.To perform an amazing act without witness.
2.To have the worst of luck when playing in groups, although having the best intentions an act occurs which usually results in multiple deaths, maimings or destruction of property.

I dunno about cliches but Branagh chews up the scenery something shocking. Great film though.

I enjoyed Solo. No lofty expectations. Funny, stuff blew up, gambling happened. Lando's Cape Collection is my new CS name. Looking forward to the seemingly inevitable second crack that this setup movie sets up.

Dunkirk - as per earlier conversations I'm of the mind that viewing Dunkirk outside of an imax will always be doing it wrong.

I wasn't expecting much, but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. 7/10

All the parts are there, but was just missing a director with a bit more of a cinematic brain to add that extra layer. If they had ended up getting someone like Kathryn Bigelow - who they were originally after - I think it could have been great. As is, it's an enjoyable one.

Solo - Pile of shit. Terribly written and feels a lot like the only end point they had in mind was A New Hope so the rest of the plot had to suffer to help them get there. Points are for production value because I found very few other redeeming qualities. Even woody harrelson was fucking shite. 3/10

Worth mentioning: I don't like any of the star wars films. This is down there with phantom menace for me though

Solo - I went in with zero expectations and frankly quite enjoyed it. I tend to ignore stories about production troubles and all that making a story out nothing nonsense you see so much , so beyond the directors leaving not sure , nor care what that was all about.

Alden is a perfectly decent Han Solo , no idea who you could cast that could bottle Fords lightning again , but he was fine. Really liked Glover as Lando , excellent and Emilia Clarke was good as well. Plot wise , yeah it's a bit thin and zips from one set piece to another. Solo being roguish, meeting Chewie all good.

Would have liked more time with him as an imperial , would have liked more Thandie , Bettany could have been give more - it was predictable but done well enough. Nice little reveal at the end , if they make another one got some interesting stuff to pick on.

Perfectly entertaining film 7/10

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - all 3 of us went into this film with very low expectations and it managed to surprise all of us by managing to dip even lower than even we expected. A truly God awful film that has no right existing. I gave it 2/10 for a couple of actually reasonable scenes, my 2 mates both gave it 0/10. If you've seen the trailers, you have seen the film.

Jurassic world - Utter shite, waste of 2 hours. Its actually hard to find something I liked about this film other than when the credits came on and it was over.

Solo - better than TLJ by a distance I felt, I didn't really treat him as the same character though which may have helped.

Jurassic world should have been title Jurassic trope, but its not 0/10 - it just is what it is a generic 5/10 CGI film with dinosaurs. It must be slightly better than solo because I didn't fall asleep even though I was flagging.

Warcraft - since it's in Netflix. Well this is an embarrassment for a film. Just woeful. Not quite sure where to begin ? The cgi is awful , the acting was beyond wooden. There are good actors in there and they stank the place up with that material. Every scene involving am orc, ludicrous. They just look rubbish , the cut scenes for the old republic looked better . The make up and teeth prosthetic Paula Patton wore throughout , good god. Stupid big armour for the humans, none of the action felt weighted or dramatic , the plot generic and stupid I'm sure it's got lots of nods to the game plots and sets stuff up but for a film badly flawed , let's go fight a demon, random generic wizard is suddenly a demon. Ok. Otherwise - didn't realise quite how badly it copies Feist and the riftwar for much of it.

It's not even a good generic fantasy ,but a fantasy battlefield earth dumpster fire . 1/10

The Crazies - 7/10 - Almost a zombie flick. Good acting, some funny moments, and Timothy Olyphant is one of those actors I'll watch in anything

Tamara Drewe - 8/10 - Superb cast, some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, and Gemma Arterton looks particularly lovely

I think I mentioned it a couple of pages back. Great film, and Pablo Schreiber is rapidly becoming one of my favourite actors.

Yep, I believe all 3 of us have given it the same score. Yet when you tell people about it, the response you get is generally "Gerard Butler/50 Cent? No thanks, I'll pass"

My only criticism of it is that I think the writer watched LA Takedown/Heat a few too many times before sitting down to write the script. Then again, if you're going to choose a film(s) for inspiration, you can't do much better.

Travolta manages to somehow make a worse film than Battlefield Earth.

btw, Ready Player One 1080p is now available from everyone's favourite and reliable source*

*Spiffy!

I loved the book, and expect the film to be every bit a shit when compared to the novel as everyone has said. However, I also expect it to be entertaining with my brain in neutral.

If you managed to gain some modicum of entertainment from a film as bad as Den of Thieves, you should have no issue finding RP1 enjoyable.

I finished reading the book this morning, having seen the film at the cinema. Different beasts, but what Nersh said, I enjoyed them both.
