Joining computers to a domain...

Having to create a computer account in AD before I can join it to the domain, and unless I delegate permissions, it has to be the same user doing both.

When the actual fuck did this become a thing?!?

What level AD is this, we are 2008 R2 and we don't have to do this shit. Is the user a domain admin?

Nope, it's by design. I can create a computer account and even delegate permissions to domain users to join the machine to the domain, but unless the machine account exists in AD, it tells me to fuck off.

I've checked, and this is the way it was designed to be, I'm just wondering if I missed something, and this is becoming standard practice. The only thing I can think is that they don't want a bunch of computers just sat in the computer folder for ever, and make sure they're in the right OU.

I should point out that I've only been here a week so far, and only just got my admin creds, which is why I didn't post "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK" on my first day.

I'm working for a small (by their standards) division of RM Group/RM Education. Not a small company, and they get to dictate how IT works here. Most of the calls I'd normally be doing get fobbed off to India, via a ticket system where the users raise it themselves. No more folder permissions and user groups and distribution lists and shit to do.

Oh I see. That's because the permission to create computer accounts in the default Computers OU has been removed for the user(s)/group(s). Beware, here be dragons. If you start messing with the default OUs you can bugger your domain up.
