I read it only affected 32bit OS machines although your link doesn't make any claim to that.

I did have it installed, but on Win 64-bit. I'm not as IT savvy as most on here, so I'm not sure whether to reboot or not? I have uninstalled the programme though.

Is been bought by avast so it's just a matter of time before it becomes annoying popup ridden bloatware. Windows defender is all you really need.

Windows Defender failed to protect a friends computer recently, that I then ended up being asked to fix. Defender found nothing, Malwarebytes found over 2000 "malicious" programs

Was it kept updated? I truly doubt it.

3rd party AV are incentivised by user behaviour to increase false positives. Microsoft are incentivised to keep their operating system secure. If Windows defender didn't work then they did something else wrong.

It was. I run Malwarebytes and have done for over 2 years and to this day, on 2 computers, its never reported finding anything.

The suggestion from most of the articles is that the threat was "disarmed" so even if you had a compromised version installed, it wouldn't have been able to call home or do anything.

Seems I had the affected (free) version (64bit) but my AV scanner hadn't flagged it as a vulnerable product

Seems that it only does stuff if it finds itself on certain companies' systems:

Worth noting that that list is mutable. Interesting read though. Clever malware.
