Build Bilb a Server Contest!

Right ... my current server is running out of space.

Current:
Windows 2003 Server
40 Gig IDE - O/S
2 x 250GB Disks in RAID0

Id planned on building a coolermaster stacker, with
2 x Raptor's - RAID1 - OS
8 x SATA Disks in RAID5 (This way I can get between 4 and 5 TB)
3Ware hardware SATA Raid controller

I guess I'm keen to ensure data integrity in case of a disk failure, especially after loosing lots of data from USB2 disks. Im keen to make it into my media server and archive my legally owned DVD's and music onto the server for viewing on a media streaming device. But in addition I wanted to be able to backup my desktop PC and laptop to the server at regular intervals.

Other than building a server, does anyone have any other suggestions? Id contemplated iSCSI devices ... but keen to keep heat emissions and power consumption as low as possible. Ive looked at Dell (and other manufacturers) servers, but for the same price as the coolermaster I wouldnt get anywhere near the storage capacity. Id even contemplated a cheaper solution of getting 5 usb2 disks and using software raid5 on them.

So folks, lets hear your ideas. I think this thread might become useful when vista is released too, as many people will become keen on having their own digital media servers since Vista has MCE built in (Ultimate edition only!).

Go for it!
