I noticed nothing worth a 3D viewing. Normally I'd suggest IMAX, but the sound is at perforation levels at times too.

Yeah you can control the scene to suit. I find 3D loses it's shit with live action and generally with realistic wide/deep vistas be they real or CGI and seems to perform better, i.e. trick the eye more accurately in close scenes. It was complete balls through most of Force Awakens and Rogue One for example which relied on rapid shifts in perspective and depth throughout the wider fights and flythroughs. Glad I saw Dunkirk in 2D also. It was no less impactful I'm sure.

Did they actually show Dunkirk in 3d? It somehow feels wrong to see that film in 3d.

Ah no it wasn't by the looks - just the 70mm and DP. I had assumed the option was out there but as you say - glad it wasn't as that would be most cack. Which itself is fairly telling about the limited quality and immersion of 3D.

Speaking of films just booked tickets for the Last Jedi. 00:01 premier showing on Dec 14th in the middle of town at a cinema with a bar. That should be an entirely sober affair with absolutely no cosplay at all.

The Mountain Between Us - Bland, formulaic, lacking any surprises, badly acted, poorly written and overly long. The one major plus is how well its filmed. It is very good at making a gigantic mountain range feel extremely claustrophobic yet never ending at the same time. The characters are also very unlikeable including, and I really do not say this lightly, EVEN THE FUCKING DOG. 3/10

Blade Runner 2049 - Agree with all the comments so far. A brilliant film that is not only a love letter to the first film, but a superb film in its own right. A heartily recommended 10/10

I have a vague memory that it came on four or five discs, which at the time utterly blew my mind.

Planning to book half day of work to watch BR... Am also glad that Nolan didn't offer 3d imax for Dunkirk.

So, 2d definitely the one for BR?

I think 3d would have ruined the image sharpness. The images are gorgeous.

Yep, and it ran like shit on our P100, before we upgraded to a P400 and were blown away by it.

For me, the sheer beauty came from the lighting, not from the actual scenery. 3d is very unlikely to improve that in any way. 2d and Imax (if possible) for me. The sound on Imax was worth the entrance fee alone (which was free as a limitless card holder )

There's a torrent available. You'll need the installer utility to get it installed on x64 though.

Pretty much the first game I bought on my first PC. That, GTA and X-Com Apocalypse. 1997 was a good year.

Isense 2D with a huge screen and Dolby Atmos is amazing. I'm happy to watch that if I cant get to Imax 2D after seeing BR 2049 in it on Saturday.

Really annoyed all the local Imax's are showing it in 3D. Waterloo Imax is showing it in 2D. At least they know what they are doing.

Im surprised 3D hasnt died a death. The public seems to be overwhelmingly against it. 3D TV sets are already (almost) entirely off the market.

Yeh, going to suffer 3D, purely because of Atmos and screen.

I will be amazed if this isn't the film that finally gets Roger Deakins his Oscar. 13 nominations and no wins is nuts.

3D would actually make it worse, due to the light loss that 3D creates.

I'm surprised this debate is happening this year? I mean who actively seeks out 3D this days, other than taking kids to see Pixar films? I think I refused to see any more 3D films unless there was no choice back in 2013, when you couldn't make out any of the opening sequence in Thor: The literal dark world, because 3D made it too dark.

The Villainess - 7/10

Pretty bonkers, with some very impressive action. The hyper-franetic camerawork and nonsensical story can be difficult at times

The Circle - 2/10, very weak acting and plot, even Hanks & Gillian didn’t do much for thiis. Won’t even comment on the script. Should have been straight to TV

Despicable Me 3 - 6/10, more of the same, series still makes me laugh

Passengers - 8/10. Only seen on a flight so no idea how it looked on the big screen or decent setup but good way to kill an hour and a bit.
