Can you post the connection information from your router ?

Downstream line attenuation & SNR margin

CRC & HEC errors up/down

The first ping to your BEBox seems high, it's local so should only be pinging at >1ms.

Is it the standard Thompson BeBox, have you tried a factory reset (make sure you have your details to hand if you are on a static IP, no username or password required for BE connections though)

Router stats are fine. It was always unlikely to be that but they're nice to see to start with.

As burundi said, your first hop seems rather high. A couple of things to look at might be where your ethernet cable is running to your router (ie. not along a power cable) and maybe swap the cable if you have a spare.

Again, unlikely, but it's always worth starting with the simplest things first and working your way up in terms of complexity.

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 325 / 2,866,086

^^ that looks a tad iffy to me... How long was the uptime when this data was taken ?

[edit]: probably a red herring - according to some pages:
If interleaving has been applied to your connection, as it probably has in the circumstances, then large numbers of FEC errors are quite normal. FEC is forward error correction, and it's a means by which extra data is transmitted to enable the router to correct errors without having to request retransmission of the data. So the figures represent success of the FEC process, not failures. [/edit]

The above is more so for ADSL2...

try sending ~100 pings to the router with:

ping -t 192.168.1.254

the above commands result in sending out 1 ping per second until the process is halted by pressing CTRL-C.

then post the results here...

I assume you have a 4 port switch in the bebox, if you get iffy ping results (drops and/or bad latency) try changing to one of the other ethernet ports and retest. If still the same change the cable and retest. Do you have other devices connected to the bebox's switch (i.e. xbox) ? If yes, try pinging that in the same way to rule out an issue of the bebox CPU being slow to respong to layer 3 and above (IP and above (e.g. ping) rather than just layer 2 switching (which is probably performed by a dedicated 4 port switch ASIC).

Lastly check the FEC errors again and always indicate how long the router has been up and what type of bandwidth usages you've used it for.. FEC errors may be normal, but excessive numbers are probably a sign of an issue on the line or the DSLAM. The ping latency *could* be related (depending on what corrects the FEC errors, if it's the CPU then this owuld hit performance for other applications, including ping)

or

ping -n 100 192.168.1.254

will send 100 pings without having to cancel it.

These are my ping results, I'm also on BE but using a Netgear router instead of the supplied BE Box.

know that some providers will not reply to tracert requests. they do this on purpose, either to protect their networks or some other stupid reason.

either way, don't rely on tracerts. another networking test is to send a large packet with a ping command -l. See here: PING MTU Checks

I would look at line interference inside... check as much as possible. How many TVs are connected, how many feet of cable, and non-capped ends? are the splitters you're using (if any) the right kind?

last time my internets went south, friggin squirrels were chewing the lines on the street. seriously.

My ping times on the trace route are a little quicker than yours although the big difference is the ping to the local router, it is <1ms whereas your is a lot higher. What is strange is your ping directly to the router was fine.

What are your ping times like to your DNS server, I am using 87.194.255.154 and average about 35ms.

To get your DNS server details open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all

In summary:

Sounds like a DNS problem.

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.244.68] with 1024 bytes of data:
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 28ms, Average = 18ms

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.244.68] with 32 bytes of data:
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 10ms, Maximum = 20ms, Average = 13ms

You'll see some increase due to the time it takes to serialise the extra data...

Have BE not been in touch yet ?
