I just hate the day that someone close to me gets hurt coz of their negligence of driving or something under the influence of drugs.

But that's a very negative stance. Just because it might happen to you or your family doesn't mean it will. People make mistakes with or without any substances legal or not. That's life. It dangerous and to think otherwise is just silly.
You have twice the chane of being hit by a meteorite than winning the lottery. And yet no one has been hit by a meteorite in the UK this year but loads have won the lottery. It's chance. Making drugs illegal vs making them legal, controlled, measured, guided and having a support network all out in the open seems like a no brainer. And that's from someone who has nothing to gain or lose either way.

Its negative yes, but driving under the influence has reprecussions. I swear down, a colleagues partner had an accident the other day hitting another car from behind, and he takes drugs. Now it may have just been coincidence that he was under the influence, but it happens. im hoping that there wont be an incident involving drink/drugs, and probably the chances are it wont. But its not just my family that gets affected, its other families too.

I dont buy into the oh the chances of it arent too likely, so its ok to put myself at more risk than necessary. Try not to put yourself in a situation in the first place. A person who takes drugs has more chance of having an accident i feel under the influence.

But it's such an obvious point. There are plenty of people out there unable to drive a car correctly regardless of drink or drugs. On the other hand I knew a bloke years ago who could drive perfectly on a pint of whiskey. I swear down.

if i was to ever lose someone close to me in a car crash scenario i'm wanting it to be by a sober driver, firstly so i know they were fully determined and it was personal and secondly so they miss my arse. shit happens every day as other's have mentioned, space cadet factor is irrelevant and just a view of the self-righteous better than thou group. statistics prove that in fact the majority of the accidents reported in your local press won't mention drugs and drink because the people are tested if there are any suspicions and normally found to be sober. caught with stuff in your system and you are fucked, well banned anyway if they can prove it, their accident happened because of chance, fate or the jehova witness in the passenger seat distracting them with a bit of a sales pitch about ickle baby jesus. i do hate to think that someone close to me gets hurt because of someone utilising a tiger, i realise it's happened to others before but tbh, it's fucking rare so i get on and live my life as i please as it's out of my control.

*no statistics were used or harmed in the making of this theory and i'm not sure if anyone has ever been enough of a self-harmer or if it's even legal to drive with a jehova in your car, let alone up front

Even if drugs were controlled, there'd still be drugs-related accidents which affect non-drug users is what I think Dev is trying to get at.

Alcohol is controlled, taxed and regulated but that doesn't stop more than a few folks getting trolleyed and then jumping into their car. And regardless of what anyone says, alcohol and drugs do impair your senses, it's what they're designed to do.

I just don't see why anyone thinks legalised drugs is going to be any different to how alcohol is at the moment, or has been for the past several thousand years.

Well for a start we'd save hundreds of billions of quid enforcing the ever more ludicrous "no smoking plants" policy.

The trouble is that one of the major life fucking aspects of taking drugs is being caught with them and that's just stupid. People who get behind the wheel after taking whatever deserve all they get but it's a seperate issue to legality.

You would save millions of £s a year by not locking up non-violent offenders who wanted nothing more than a little buzz.

Nobody has EVER died from using Cannabis. So its safer than Alcohol.

You would free up police time to go after *SHOCK* *HORROR* actual offenders.

Cancer and other pain sufferers would receive fully legal access to a drug that has been proven over and over to have nothing but positive effects.

You would repeal a law that was passed for racist reasons. (Wont go into full detail but the word "Marihuana" originally referred to Mexians who smoked the drug.)

Finally, and this one is a biggy, you could TAX IT. If you actually tax Cannabis, can you imagine how much revenue you could generate to deal with the countries growing defecit?

I dont do any drugs, nor do I smoke fags and Im not the worlds biggest drinker, but when you see something thats as common sense as this, its hard not to support it. Of course it will never happen whilst all our politicians are being influenced by our ridiculously closed minded newspapers and their sensationalist reporting.

I thought it was fairly proven that it can cause fairly severe mental problems if abused?

excessive carrots turn you orange, don't see them restricted because it could happen to someone that stupid, some people are ocd, some people have underlying mental problems anyway, abuse is abuse

Excessive consumption of McDonalds can give you a heart attack, but I dont see McDonalds being banned.

Actually, I thought those "studies" that showed all the negative effects were found to be seriously flawed and was just more general sensationalist bollocks. Its like the whole Leah Betts thing. She died after taking an ecstasy tablet and the whole of the country went fucking insane, denouncing these evil drugs etc..... but then it turned out she was just a fucking moron who drank too much. Of course, nobody actually reported on the real cause of death and Leah Betts became the face of anti-drugs campaigns for years.

Im not saying legalise ecstasy btw, just weed.

i've never looked into it myself because frankly i'm not interested, but my doctors have told me about the psychological damage weed can do. they might just be being cautious whether it's been proven or not, i dont know.

Personally I think weed isn't great because it tends to reduce people's "get up and go" for want of a better expression. Not in every case by any means but I do know a few people who it's kind of sucked the life out of... Once in the distant past they had hopes, dreams, plans etc. but weed has given them "cba" syndrome and they've mostly kind of drifted along without achieving anything like their potential.

I'm not basing this on any kind of scientific evidence as such, just my own observations.
