basically there was a desktop version of that wasn't there where you use a small SSD into a special caddy which then melds to the primary HDD and hybridises from there.

They do desktop versions of the momentus XT too.

Reliable ... first firmware versions weren't. Never ones are great. Some comparison videos on youtube show them squarely between SSD and 10,000 RPM disks. But pricewise, they trounce them both!

makes sense that there is a desktop version.
I can't remember the link for the older separate version. ,this will save on power and footprint from that though

Slightly OT, but the new gen of SSDs seem to be emerging. Vertex 3 seems to be the current frontrunner. Around 440 for the 240Gb, so pricy as you might expect, but stonking numbers. I think you need a SATA 3 equipped to reach that speed though (or use a Revodrive, PCI-E based one).
