ATI 5870

This is what I have got over the last 9 months using my ATI 5870. I have updated drivers over and over again. I have sent an email to CCL to see what they think, but its proper annoying now

Keypoints:

1:09 screen shake on log in
then you will see artifacts on screen

2:11 shake when logging off too

3:40 screen shake again

and artifacts still remain on start menu

the 2nd video shows how a black line appears when i shutdown and screen shake again

I'd say it's probably got fudged VRAM. It's an RMA job.

I get that message while running certain games, I think it was Bad Company 2 used to cause it. Not seen it happen with any other games.

Aye, I think it's the software that's at fault rather than any weakness on the hardware front.

but u agree the artifacts and screen shake in the videos is pretty bad. ive had 3 or 4 of these ATI 5870 cards already. the first few were at the early days, and then i thought i wld keep the last despite some problems hoping it was a driver issue. seems not

3-4 faulty cards seems really strange though.

Can't you try it in a different machine ?
At least that will tell you if it's a card fault or not.

are you just overwriting the drivers each time or have you followed the rebooticles and driver sweeper idea?

I would have thought artifacts would indicate ram issues, unless its dvi cable issues (if several cards have exhibited the same problems).

Havent had a single issue with my 5850.

agreeing with the above.

look at your CPU, the cables, power connections.
monitor drivers, are they relevant?
I'd look at the state of the card too, is it filthy (and not in a QT sort of way) just covered in dust? any ramsinks that are missing etc?

have you tried underclocking the card to see if that helps? then you can isolate a VRAM issue or core issue for example?

stuff like that

I've never had that and run the 4X phen and only 4gig of ram.

I also noticed that his windows takes like well over a minute to boot. seems odd as he has an SSD and a shit hot pc.

Problem seems to have disappeared, so:

1) Is it possible that a Windows update has solved the problem?
2) Is it possible that if my room is cold and makes the components cold, that there are artifacts?

Im gonna try start it up bright and early 2mo morning and see if the colder mornings have any effect on it

I would have thought that you're more likely to see artefacts if it was too warm, computers like being cool.

my room is like a freezer sometimes. I was wondering because after a couple times of turning off and on, it used to get rid of artifacts. But now all gone, no screen shudders or anything. long may this continue.

Sorry to reopen a thread but....the problem is back.

However I have had a breakthrough. I thought the Windows updates or something had solved it, but coincidentally, I bought a HDMI cable and connected my pc to my tv. As long as thats connected, not problem. However I took it out last night and it returned

Im connected via DVI cable from my pc to monitor, do you think this cable could be an issue? seems weird that a HDMI cable running to my tv solved the problem

The problem is, people cant actually help you diagnose the problem, unless youre prepared to answer the questions they pose to you.

Like Nomad said (although perhaps without calling Devs a thick cunt ) many questions were asked of him and he didnt respond. Fair enough if he wasnt sure how to answer the questions asked, but at least acknowledge peoples requests and ask for more information. Nomad asked what troubleshooting Devs has already done and he didnt bother responding to that. I made a request twice for the PSU power rating and was ignored both times. We cant actually help until information like that is provided and Im in a situation where I really dont think I can be bothered helping now.
