Bass goodies

Hi

My parents are asking me what i want for christmas (theyre weird like that), and for once, i havnt a bloody clue.

Im guessing some kind of bass goodies would be in order!

Budget i guess around 80 quid.

Anyone recommend me some cool accessaries, like pedals or stuff like that?

I was thinking of getting a wah pedal, so i can do the intro to For Whom The Bell Tolls properly

But im open to anything really

I already have decent bass and amp, so i dont need new ones for that (fender p-bass and a marshall bass state 150)

Thanks

Just some ideas

http://www.activemusician.com/market...&s=1&nav=md-it

For effects looks here

Unfortunately, as a bassist you don't get the wealth of goodies available that us Geetar players get

Thanks neutron, a little advice will be needed, as i have no idea what most of that stuff does :p

I think overdrive basically means distortion right? I guess that could be cool, but what does the rest do? Like chorus, or a limited enhancer?, synth stomp box?

If you could explain a few of them that would be ace

Pardon my ignorance, ta

Chorus - takes the signal splits it in two then mixes it back with slight delay. You'll here chorus on a lot of guitar songs, it adds depth to clean sounds and it's quite nice distorted as well. Almost like two guitars are playing together.

Overdrive - is distortion - think Cliff Burton from the first 3 Metallica albums - fantastic bass player.

Compressor - Does what it sounds like sort of squashes the sound. for guitars think ZZ top.

Limiter - Lot like a compressor.

Octave - Does what it say on the tin - turns your played note into a higher or lower octave.

Synth - Makes wierd sounds like you'd expect to find on a keyboard - limited use.

Flange - Adds a kind of sweeping swish to the sound, think of Axl Rose's voice on Rocket Queen.

I'd say probably a compressor, chorus or EQ pedal might be the best to go with. I'd expect you would get most use from the EQ or compressor.

Yeah i knew cliff used overdrive Hes my hero

Think i might try and blag a chorus and overdrive pedal, my amp has equaliser stuff on it.

I play kinda punky rocky stuff but some metal too, (such as early metallica) and cool stuff like the pixies

*giggles at flange*

I want a chorus pedal for my recording.
at the moment i have one bass tuned slightly lower than the other, and play it seperately at a slightly lower volume to get a nice effect when recording.

I'd go for the synth pedal tbh.

I've got a bass chorus and I've never been that impressed with it. Sounds better when I put my 12-string through it tbh.

If you can, get yourself down to a shop and have a play with some of them.

I can speak very very highly of Guitar Rig... if you can, er... get your hands on it. You'd need a pre-amp and some sort of audio interface for the computer though

Ay guitar rig is the bee's knee's, better than anything I've tried from Line 6 (not knocking them, there pretty good too).

I actually intend to buy GR 2.0 when it's released.

Yeah Harry

I just find guitar Rig to be a really natural sounding amp modeller. More so than a pod or guitar port. It just sounds to me so much more real. The best way I can put it is I think the line6 stuff is great for home practise but I probably wouldn't gig with it. I'd prefer the real thing, but I don't think I'd hesitate to replace my real amp for guitar rig. I'd still rather use the real thing but for versatility (if you were in a broad cover group for example) GR would be ideal.

I like guitar port for it's online tracks and lessons, and it can't be beat for that, but when I really want to let rip at neighbour friendly volume I fire up guitar rig.

Nah, Guitar Rig isn't quite on par with the PodXT but it's fairly close, and a lot easier to tweak what wiht a GUI 'n all.

Well, the album was released Self Titled, but dubbed the Black Album because of Spinal Tap.

50 Cent (or some equally pish hip-hop lad) has an album called the Black Album.
