Sidewinder joystick trouble

Hey you guys!
My new joystick (second hand MS Sidewinder, cheap one i think) is not being picked up by bf1942. It works fine in the win2k 'Gaming Options' - I have calibrated it etc and all is well there. However, I go into battlefield controls to set it up and it just won't detect it. i also have a sidewinder gamepad pr000 which does work in bf, thought id disconnect this and just have the joystick in, still didnt work so i doubt it's a conflict. I have even reinstalled BF, didnt work. Any other suggestions you lot got? Google didnt give me any joy, i might have to trawl the ms site

ta for any help

might be a silly suggestion but are you plugging your joystick in before you load the game? if not, try it.
mine wont register unless my joystick is set up 1st and then load the game.

Make sure the sidwinder is the default joystick in control panel/printers and other hardware/game controllers. Whichever you installed first will be default.

cheers chaps, it seems that even when the gamepad was unplugged, it was still the default controller

i had to disable it in device manager and now the joystick works!

i'm off to play

Yes it will be because the driver is still installed, just switch the defaults around, much easier than disabling/reinabling all the time.
