Post B-2 and a half bomber

AKA the B-21 Raider. I'd noted mutterings from the USAF and US DoD a long while back about some sort of new bomber, but didn't pay much attention, thinking this was just the usual idle speculation about what may happen once piece of equipment X starts to reach the end of its service life.

Now, they've taken it a bit further, to the point of manufacture and discussion of eventual basing arrangements;

It seems very much to be an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary design. Most likely intended to keep a lid on cost-although we all know how easily that idea can fall by the wayside-with a view to carrying out the same mission profiles in a modern threat environment. I note that the USAF are also reported to be going "back to the future", by issuing a requirement for a deep penetration fighter, to accompany the B-21 on the most difficult & dangerous missions. No real word on that yet, but considering the amount of effort that's gone into UCAVs in recent years, you could imagine a flight of relatively expendable uncrewed vehicles taking out air defences, or running distraction ops.

Who would have thought, though, that the USAFs latest Bomber would be in the same order of battle as a much-upgraded B-52, with the B-1s and B-2s getting phased out?

Saw the B2 at RIAT accompanied by two fighters, they looked like toys next to it and the B2 looked very alien, an awesome plane.
