Undeleteable files....

right i have 8 or so folders containing thousands of files that i cant delete......it says access has been denied when i try to delete them.

They are files left behind from trying to install XP SP1 while i had a virus......the update would crash and leave al lthe files behind.

I really need to get rid of them since they are taking up over 1 gig now ffs. And it screws up my organization

Is there any proggy that can delete any FOLDER cause i cant be arsed going through 7000 or so files. and i cant even get inside some of the folders!

any help appreciated

Take Ownership of the top-level folder
For instance if it was c:\Temp

Right click on folder - Properties - Security tab - Advanced... button
Click on the Owner tab and you should see a list of possible users (probably administrator). Select it, and also make sure you tick "replace owner on subcontainers and objects". Click Apply, then OK

As long as your admin (or a user with admin rights - or if you selected your name from the list) then you will be able to delete the folders/files once the security permissions have been changed

Close any open 'properties' window first, then:
Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - View tab and untick "use simple file sharing"

Then go through the process above

The fact that Win XP doesn`t have DOS, maybe? I think that`s a safe bet.
