laptop keyboard hep

Hello

The keys 9ol. on my keyboard randomly stopped working, I now have to use the on-screen keyboard which is really frustrating.

I bought a new keyboard and have just installed this and the same keys dont work? ARGHHHH! :s

Anyone had an issue like this or any idea on the cause? Nothing has been spilt on the laptop

Thanks

Odd that those keys are the right-hand side of the numlock-on section of a laptop keyboard that doesn't have a separate numeric keypad. Is it still set to a UK keyboard in localisation?

edit: which o/s?

Thanks Nomad

This seems to fit...

"Yes there is a keyboard controller on the motherboard of all x86 computers going back to the DOS days. It can go bad. Make sure you have the keyboard ribbon cable inserted in the ziff connector all the way. Clean off the ribbon cable with rubbing alcohol. But if you installed a new keyboard and the exact same row of keys is bad as on the old keyboard it is likely the keyboard controller, which will require a new motherboard to fix. Sorry.
...."

Grrrrr

I guess its a new MOBO required

the only suggestions i can suggest are: since i've not peeked inside your model of laptop in question. is there any chance the ribbon cable was not integral to the keyboard unit. ie you were able to swop it by unplugging it from the keyboard and therefore re-used the original cable. this would mean the chance that it could still be caused by how the other end is seated in the connector on the mobo? failing that, any attractive lady pics available?

The ribbon is attached to the keyboard so a new ribbon was used.

I can do one better than pics - www.youporn.com - have fun.

lol.

with the keyboard off and only connected by the cable, can you try pressing on the connector on the mobo and pressing the non-functioning keys?

have a peruse of the other links too though, it may be that this cable isn't actually the cause, worth a shot before looking for a new mobo
