It is very dull but I’m not sure there’s much to be done about it.

I'm willing to take Monaco as the one permaboring track a year cos of all the glamour and shizzle, it's when they start adding other pieces of shit like Valencia that it's gone too far.

Monaco are working on a project to build a add a new beachfront area of luxury apartments to relegate those just behind to be no longer on the coast... so next they just need to look at the track and to allow for changes knock down a few of the slums* to add the possibility of excitement

*anything worth under 10million?

Oh totally, Monacoís worth it just as a piece of F1 heritage. I expect itís the most expensive one to go to and there isnít a lot to see, but Iíd like to see it live.

I think being able to eek out tyres for 50+ laps should be looked at though. A special one off Monaco compound perhaps.

There are plenty of compounds already, adding more will be going overboard.

I'd happily see it gone from the schedule. The track issues have been made worse with the new wider cars and bigger tyres, but if you chucked that layout into a simulator, stripped out everything bar the track and asked someone do you want to race here? I imagine the answer is nope.

The concept of it is cool - the most street circuity of all the street circuits , yep glitz and glamour , but as a race. Really poor.

Yep mature response!

Ricciardo may or may not be due a 10 place penalty this weekend. Still utterly ludicrous to penalise people like this.

Christian Horner is spot on about the tyres. They need to tweak the compounds so everyone has to change the tyres at least twice.

Well yes and no. Overtaking at pitstops/different strategies is better than no overtaking, but I'd prefer they focus first on making it so the cars can actually bloody follow and pass on the track, without needing crap like DRS. Plus to be fair Pirelli did that at first, and then were told that their tyres were too shit and they had to make them longer lasting.

Hamilton was scuppered three or four times with back-markers as he was up close-ish behind Ricciardo.
Dull race really, though.

It's not like they weren't leaving bits of rubber everywhere as it is... which probably actually works against overtaking even with the degradation as it makes it so shitty to go off line.

You know you have serious fundamental flaws with your specs if a circuit like this was so bad to watch . I do wonder if those first few races are going to be the outlier. But wider cars , shitty aero , shitty tyres , managing races as opposed to racing them , fuel conservation all adds up to not good

Also limiting engines eeking them out over several races doesn't help the flat out racing aspect. So much needs changing.

There doesn't seem to be a right answer with tyres, it appears the teams are too good at working out the best strategy whatever the tyre is. If it degrades too fast then drivers manage the tyres to hit the stint lengths, if they are too hard they can race quickly but only because they are confident they will only need 1 pit stop.

Perhaps an answer is to take away data, don't let them monitor tyre temperatures (or reduce the accuracy with which they can, maybe they must use the colour scheme used in racing games!).

But fundementally its the ability to follow other cars on track. Honestly I'm surprised no GT racing series has been able to raise its profile to match F1. Watch DTM and its really good racing, but doesn't want to expand out of germany. The Blancpain GT3 series could also challenge, but hasn't got the recognition. A lot seem hamstrung a bit by history, which special 1-off races in championships etc that make it hard to package for TV.

Again not sure this is the issue IMO. If an engine only just lasts one race then they will still limit overtaking modes etc to ensure they get to the end of the race (see how they fuel to lower limit and hope for a safety car, otherwise have to manage it through the race). I think it would make it worse because it takes away the variability. I think it would be great if Hamilton had been a target for Raikkonen because he was down on power with the engine at the end of its life, but in the race it seemed to make no real difference (may have hindered him in quali). Conversely maybe it was a lack of top engine mode for in and out lap that allowed Ricciardo past, so it did allow the only top-6 overtake of the race.

Fundamentally here I think the teams know how much life the engine has, and have done the stats that say reliability will score you more points than flat out pushing.
