Tried to start Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand but the preface was such a fawning ballache I have abandoned it for the time being.

Next target is a book called Helium. Author's name escapes me at the moment - it is one that I rescued from a bargain bin because its blurb said "Like a cross between Frank Zappa and Franz Kafka" and frankly I felt powerless to refuse. Even if it's rubbish it only cost about 75p. win-win.

Finished books 5 , 6 and 7 of the Dresden files - Death Masks, Blood Rites and Dead Beat - they really have grown on me and the books get better as they hurtle along. It's got some good characters a well imagined chicago and I just enjoyed em immensely

The george rr martin series is fantastic, I've still got a feast for crows to read but I'm putting it off as I want the final one after that as well! Plus I might feel the need to reread the others just to remind myself of all the goings on!

Meantime I can't quite decide what to read next ...

/me looks through bookshelf

Just finished the first book in the 'Wheel Of Time' series by Robert Jordan.

Theres 11 books in the series altogether and hes still going.

Unfortunately the guy is terminally ill and won't finish the whole saga.

Typical

Anyhoo, if you like Lord of the Rings type stuff then these books are for you.

Dragons of a Fallen Sun, book one of the War of Souls trilogy by Weis and Hickman, Dragonlance series. I've read Chronicles and Legends countless times but this is only my second time through WoS.

Currently staring baffled at the pages of "The quantum theory of Insanity" by Will Self. Funny, odd and weird.

Finished Proven Guilty the latest Dresden Files book. Again great fun, much enjoyment and a good read. After that I read a crime thing by Nick Stone called Mr Clarinet about a PI taking a job in Haiti. It was ok more of a setup for a series and introducing some future plots rather than concentrating on makin ghis first book good heh

Just about finished rereading an old warhammer book the Genevieve novels by Jack Yeovil ( Kim Newman ) simply because I couldnt be bothered picking something else!

Next up though I think it's either The Big Nowhere by James Ellroy or The Darkness That Comes Before by R Scott Bakker or possibly the brick that passes itself off as a Feast for Crows.......

Make sure you read all four!

Hyperion
Fall of Hyperion
Endymion
Rise of Endymion

They've collated the books into two volumes IIRC.
