Microsoft announce Windows.... errrr.... 10.

Apparently Microsoft feel that Windows 8 was so damaging that announcing version 9 would be too close to it and have skipped straight to Windows 10.

As with Windows 8, Microsoft plan to have the operating system run on a multitude of devices, from PCs to phones and even the Xbox One console. However Microsoft have made large departures from the design philosophy of Windows 8 and have returned the start menu to the PC version (hurrah!) along with support for "notification areas" and "live tiles"

No word on when Windows 10 is due for release yet.

Poor state of affairs when Microsoft copies old Aprils fools jokes as Windows platform strategy.

Yes they will really drive their profits by continuing to push a 7 year old piece of software as their primary OS.

didnt realise it was FIVE years already to be honest. fair enough. How about they actually do a decent job of an operating system this time then. Windows 10 should be good, as its every other windows that generally is.

The virtual desktops isn't that great an addition, graphics card manufacturers have given you that capability for years and not many people use it.

I was messing with virtual desktops on Windows 95, there's been add-ons for Windows for years to enable this. Be nice for it to be officially supported though.

Windows 10 technical preview is available for download now from the Microsoft technet evaluation center

Liking Win 10 so far, it works as you'd expect it to on a desktop machine with no touch interface.

The whole signup was shady as balls as usual. Optout, optout, optout, then some text at the end saying you're opted in anyway.

Never realised it was Microsoft that ran "Maxine's livecam lez threeway shower fisting".

That must mean it's ok to click on all that stuff then.

I'm so relieved.

To be fair, Windows 7 and 8.1 were very good. However that presentation just leads me to believe that Microsoft have lost the fucking plot. A 5 minute conversation between the guy on stage and Cortana, culminating with Cortana doing a Yoda impression do not fill me with confidence for the future of Windows.

There were a couple of good points in the presentation, like the fact that it will be a free upgrade for Windows 7/8/8.1 users within the first year of release. Most of it however fills me full of dread. I certainly wont be upgrading on release day.
