I read in the Facebook group today that one of the Model 3 screens broke whilst driving. Doesn't sound too serious until you realise you cant even see what speed you're going without it..

CI/CD seems to work really well with web services because noone gets set on fire when they crash. Bit scary seeing the same practice in cars.

That does seem pretty bad. Heard about build issues for the S too. But hey, he *is* from Detroit and consults there, so that might have some bearing.

One guy in the comments said he had similar things to say about the i3, too.

I hope it improves.

The HV issue in crashes isn't something that had occurred to me before which is a bit dense. To put that cutout behind an electromech catch?!

I've driven a LOT of American cars over the past 25 years. I can't recall a single one that was in any way superior to a 90's KIA in terms of build quality.

In reality suspect the firemen will just use an axe rather than faffing about. No point being careful, it's trashed anyway.

Yeah but it's the whole getting electrocuted by the high voltage runs via the axe/jaws part that sucks. In normal cars you've got 12v to worry about.

Ah, I didn't appreciate that. My current car payments have been designed (by me) around the 3's availablity(i.e. 0 owed in 2019), so I really hope it doesn't suck.

Ah you've got to be circumspect. Currently there's twenty litres of petrol to potentially get involved in any given accident. Hazards are part of the job. Still, seems like rescuing people from cars isn't something you want to be making harder...

The fire service use a special database that details all the cuts and where to make them for every vehicle (extractions etc). I'd love to see the Tesla entries.

It will probably be based off the first responder guide:
https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/...e_Guide_en.pdf

I'm a tesla fanboy and don't investigate panel gaps, my Model S has had a few issues, had to go back to the factory twice, and had 2 charge cables stop working. Got loaner cars both times, but you hope they've improved things for the Model 3. Wonder if they haven't had time to do all the refinement stuff given they're trying to meet a production deadline.

Some interesting stuff in there, such as the high voltage lines power off when the airbags are deployed. So they aren't complete muppets. Though I don't believe you can tell that from the outside, so I don't know if you'd be allowed to assume it as a first responder. There is a suprising amount you need to know for any car though (No-cut zones etc) so they must be used to picking up the manual before cutting in.

Also interesting advice to use water on an electrical fire to cool the battery.

Brings it home what a ridiculous job first responders do. Trying to imagine flicking through the manual while a family of four lie screaming in pain because some twat jumped the lights and t-boned them.

The fire service guide has detailed instructions for where to cut when performing extrications. If you ever have a minor accident, but one in which the fire service need to be called, don't mention neck or back pain, they'll have the roof off your car.

Played right into their hands!

They need to work on the weight distribution of the semi and get more load on the rear axles. I won't be buying one until they sort that out...

I'm not jel.

I refuse to state that i'm in anyway envious of your purchase.

Seeing as how it won't cost you jack to drive around now I think it's perfectly reasonable for you to offer free rides to the trickery massive.
