Best multiplayer games at the moment?

Didn't know which forum to put this in.

This isn't restricted to MMOs but I'd like to start playing an online game but have absolutely no clue what's any good these days.

Any recommendations for something relatively casual i.e. not WoW or Eve

Not played it myself but Rocket League gets good reviews.

Personally I play far too much fifa but it isn't the most social experience playing online.

None. All of them involve being dicked on by a 12 year old (not an endorsement).

As NWA has said, Rocket League. It's great if you just fancy a few quick games, but it's surprising how much depth there is if you want to play at a higher level. There's loads of YouTube videos on the advanced techniques, but they are so difficult to pull off.

The Division
GTA V
Rocket League
R6 Seige

All excellent games online, can be a bit tedious on your own. If you manage to get a few of you online they are really good, only prob is nearly every online game now requires a tonne of DLC

One game I've never seen mentioned on trickery is Fistful of Frags, a cowboy FPS free on Steam. It's not your CoD of BF, but it's a good blast for a couple of hours.

Been playing The Division with the gf. It's not bad and has some end game mileage but not much. There's PvP or PvCheat if you fancy a good ganking from overpowered script kiddies lurking in the "Dark Zone". It's got the option of 4-man squad action for the L4D contingent.

Most of the suggestions here are limited multiplayer though, not massively multiplayer which I assume Brocken is on about.

As Nersh states, WoW is still king of the castle by virtue of numbers and certainly the last expansion was an improvement on Warlords but again, it's all become very samey.

I've been keeping an eye on Crowfall, which you can buy your way into the pre-alpha if you so desire. It has a very sandboxy feel to it, with a progression system rooted in Eve Online with some tweaks. Camelot Unchained also looks good, spiritual successor to DAoC with some fancy bits and bobs.

At the moment, however, I've cried off MMOs as there just isn't anything out there worth the time at the moment tbh.

Millions of mediocre players giving it a couple of hours a week? Is it remotely playable casually?

Yeah of course it's the very definition of stateless, casual gaming. Do it. Shout me when you're fifty games in.

Give me a shout too. Only got 300 games, bit slowly approaching parity. Mostly play support.

It depresses me that its been over 10 years since BF1942 came out, and I'm not convinced modern gameplay is better. I want to be able to sail around in a carrier again!

It's all the same, with slightly improved graphics and physics.

Most FPS now, it you stripped away their textures and HUD, would be largely the same as each other, and all games going back to Quake/Doom. I'd suggest that with generic texturing you wouldn't be able to tell most games apart.

Still amazes me how much money is spent reinventing wheels.

They also do crazy things like require you to burn 20 hours just to get a competitive set of equipment, which I'm just too lazy to do these days.

Also no ships lagging the server whilst planes are taking off

I gave it a punt. I got more enjoyment out of the £20 I spent on ESO over the weekend than I would of done the pub on Thursday night. So it wasn't a bad buy in my book.

The only odd thing about is that I noticed is that it plays like a single player game, with the odd interruption of another player occasionally and the spamtastic zone chat. You could merrily run around questing all day without any sort of MMO related intrusion and be none the wiser.

Just play wow for the added bonus that it's not badly drawn repetitive shit with one useful build per class and when you get to the endgame there is actually an endgame rather than a letdown that would make mass effect 3 blush.
