Given this a good go over the weekend, sussing it out slowly but surely.

Managing to do missions without any hicups so far at least haha. Alot to take it tbh...

You need to get involved with the human side of it if you're going to keep playing. The PvE in Eve is just a means to an end.

Join a corporation that specialises in introducing people to PvP, Eve University for example.

Ahh spot on, ill have to join a corp then.

Righty few noob questions -

Atributes? Is there any spec or certain build I should heads for? Ive not got a clue what does what?
Likewise for augmentations.

Next, Skill queuing - Is there a route I should follow or just keep planning them random like I have been doing?

PVP - I take it you run into this later on in the game?

Im just nearing the end of the 10 quests for each aspect of the game after starting (Military, Exploration, Business etc)

That's a big question - there are many answers.

If you look at each skill, you will see a primary and a secondary attribute. Gunnery skills tend to use Perception and Willpower - so when you choose attribs, you should have a handful of pool points to allocate as you see fit. You will get 1 attribute 're-wire' a year.

E.g. if you spend all your pool points in Perception, all skills that use perception (either as primary or secondary) will train faster, as you will rack up more points per hour to hit each skill level.

You need to figure out what you want to do - do you want to invent? Manufacture? Fight? Mine? Explore? Gank? Pirate? Research? Salvage? etc. I suspect you will want to fight, so then what ship do you want to fly? Your race doesn't make any difference any more, but each race's ships have bonuses to a particular type of weapon (e.g. Caldari tend to be missile/shield ships).

An essential tool is EveMon, and another is EFT (Eve Fit Tool). Evemon will help you plan skills for a given ship. EFT will aid in putitng modules on ships to see what damage it will produce, it's EHP etc.

Re: PvP - Eve is not like other MMOs. You can jump into whatever, whenever. I started the game and was in nullsec (the lawless area of the galaxy) within 2 weeks. You can be useful to your chosen corp. Our corp has just had a new player join, he was 3 weeks old, and loves it.

Aye fighting sounds good.

Only ships ive got so far are the ones ive got through missions (Punisher, Executioner, Tormentor and Impairor)
Been watching a few vids on YT caught some guy in a Rattler looked v good! Tbh m8, I dont know whats what still, just liked the look of that.

What is the best for me to aim at then? New char for weapon type? whilst im still relatively new
Im Amarr on this guy.

I don't know Amarr ships that well, apart from that they use LAZ0RS!

Core skills are important - things that give you more CPU, more Capacitor etc. EveMon will tell you if you check out the certificate section - Core competency - will give you an idea to get started.

A:Its both beautifully simple and deliciously complex at the same time...

As a mostly PvP pilot I pick a ship and fittings and then train for it although the same principals can be applied to any branch of EvE. I'll use my sig/speed tanked solo Jaguar fit as an example...

Now, I know that its a lot of time/SP/plex for a full T2 fit but you should never fly faction or T2 boats without it and some of the skills will help you regardless of what ship you’re flying so its always worth while. A fully T2 fitted Rifter is sometimes even more deadly than a T2 ship as they tend to get left alone in most large fleet situations so always train the support and fitting skills before you train into the hull. In fact, most of the time I leave the hull skill until last, training the support skills then tank, prop mods (including jamming mods), damage mods and guns, in that order, before even thinking about flying the end goal. Having skills like Tactical Shield Manipulation and Hull Upgrades to 4 is amazing as resistance mods (like the Adaptive Invulnerability Field and Damage Control) and speed mods (Nanos and Overdrive Injectors) are used on every class of ship, right up to Titans!

Never fly a T2 ship without T2 guns! If you do you’re a terrible pubbie who should fk off back to Hello Kitty Online (I hear the PvP there is on your level… scrub)! tongue out

I'll put the skills in italics in the body text and strike through skills that have to be trained to the same or higher level for other fittings.

The hull needs Minmatar Frigate 5, Spaceship Command 3, Mechanics 5, Power Grid Management 5 and at least Assault Frigates 1 although I would never recommend flying a T2 ship without the specialisation skill at a minimum of 4.

For the low slots you'd need;
Mechanics 1 and Hull Upgrades 2 for the Nanofiber Internal Structure and Overdrive Injector
Mechanics 1 and Hull Upgrades 4 for the Damage Control
Gunnery 2 and Weapon Upgrades 4 for the Gyrostabiliser

With the mids you'll need;
Navigation 1 and Afterburner 4 for the AB
Navigation 2, CPU Management 3 and Propulsion Jamming 2 for the Scram
Science 1, Power Grid Management 2 and Shield Upgrades 4 for the MSE
Tactical Shield Manipulation 4 and Power Grid Management 3 for the Invulnerability Field

The rigs will need;
Mechanics 3, Jury Rigging 3 and Projectile Weapon Rigging 1

Guns (they go pew-pew!)
Gunnery 2, Small Projectile Turret 5, Motion Prediction 3 and Small Autocannon Specialisation 1 although the spec skill should always be higher than that!

So to fly this ship you’ll need about 30 days of training with a 27 Perception/21 Willpower neural map and +3s and thats just to fly it at its most basic level as *beats you over the head with this* these ships really come into their own with the gun and ship spec skills at 4 or 5. Expect to add another 8 days to get the spec skills to 4. Now for an actual skill plan I create the fit in EFT then export it to Neocom and use that to generate a plan but you could probably do exactly the same thing with a text document, deleting the skills as you train them. You can optimise the skill order and use remaps to make the training time more efficient but as long as you end up with the skills in the spoiler below at the end you’ll be ok…

And last but not least, the most important skill you’ll ever train in EvE… Cybernetics 1

Great, now you're in the ship with a decent fit...

So what! The tracking, optimal range, rate of fire and raw damage output of your guns are all (still) sub-optimal so go train Gunnery, Controlled Bursts, Rapid Firing, Motion Prediction, Sharpshooter, Surgical Strike, Projectile Weapon Rigging and Trajectory Analysis to 4 and if you're using hybrids or lasers add Controlled Bursts to that list. Now lets make you harder to hit and give you a bit more shield when your victim does manage to land one on you! Train Spaceship Command, Acceleration Control, Navigation, Shield Operation, Shield Management and Evasive Manoeuvring to 4. Done that? Good! Now lets fix your cap so train Capacitor Management, Fuel Conservation and Capacitor Systems Operation to (you guessed it) 4. Now add Long Range Targeting, Signature Analysis and Target Management. We might as well throw Thermodynamics in there too so that your repair bills are even higher.

These are all support skills which improve what you can do but, for the most part, aren't essential to the flying of the ship but they improve every ship that you'll ever fly from the lowliest of Noobship right up to the greatest of Titans (the Ragnarock bhes!). If it takes 30 to 40 days to get into a T2 fit T2 ship, expect to be training support skills for at least another 30 to 40 days. Just suck it up and train them as its better to get them out of the way instead of stringing them out and not getting reimbursed for a doctrine ship because you were flying it while missing one of the Alliance required prerequisite support skills.

Yes, I have done that... The ship in question was a Tempest Fleet Issue!

So little NewBee, never pass up fleets, fly your Rifter and fly it well, tackle your enemy, train your skills and some day you too can lose 1bn+ isk ships for the glory of your Alliance.

Never not training skills!

Really enjoying it so far, joined up with scrobbs and co so learning thick and fast.

Got the skills learning away now nicely, for my tackler role.
Will soon be tackling away in my Executioner all trained up haha, basically ill be annoying cannon fodder till I get my big boy pants on haha.

Learning curve is insane! but once you get an idea its really enjoyable, gutted I didnt stick with it sooner.

Righty Q&A time again.

I went Amarr as my race, now having done a bit of reading it appears it may have been a shit choice for pvp/pve etc, in general and quoting "lasers are gay and shit" haha
Dont know how true it is etc, but so far ive been plodding on nicely as amarr.

Now ive seen I can skill this guy on other races ships, is it worth me respecing to something more suited?
If so what?
