Then when he approached a couple of screenplay writers, they decided the story had a lot more potential and shifted it to the future and draw up a 300 page bible for its "history". Allegedly Smith et al. had it planned to have an After Earth universe and flog all sorts of companion materials such as comics, games, books etc.
As far as I can tell from interviews with Gary Whitta, it was Smith's idea to set it in the future. The whole thing was / is just a Jaden promotion vehicle that flopped.

2 Guns- 8/10. F*cking epic! really enjoyed it. Story's really twisty, a great action thriller.

The Lone Ranger - was alright, nothing more nothing less. Johnny Depp was a bit disappointing 6/10

Pain & Gain, 4/10. I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood for this. It's not particularly funny but it has a couple of moments. Although as it's supposedly based on a true story I kept watching in disbelief that people could be that stupid!

Hangover III, 3.5/10. Predictable by the numbers.

pain&gain is based on more a wtf story than a comedic one, i don't think they had a proper idea of what they were doing when they made it as it wasn't one or the other

I liked Pain and Gain but treat it a bit like watching fast and furious.

Internship - 3/5 entertaining, predictable and the Indian wife in it is eye poppingly smoking!
Pacific Rim - 4/5 watched it in 1080 the other day. REALLY enjoyed it the attention to detail in the visuals alone are worth watching it. The Kaji(sp?) look amazing.

Olympus Has Fallen - 7/10. Not a bad action flick - very much a Die Hard with Gerard Butler, but well executed. Grab a beer and switch the brain off.

Pacific Rim, 4.9/10. Visuals are stunning, but beyond that all a bit meh. Disappointing.

Law Abiding Man - quite well written, although I thought that it got weak in the last 20 minutes. Enjoyed it.

Do you mean Law Abiding Citizen?

Watched Filth last night , pretty good. 7/10. I've never read the book , will probably never read any of Welsh's stuff ( they just don't appeal and I think trainspotting is a pretty wank film ) but I enjoyed this. Gloriously filthy and funny for long stretches, for me the more serious interludes and some of the other bits that happen don't quite work with the OTT comedic sections. Worth a watch I'd say.

Drug War - First PRC film I've seen, and it was good despite the slightly off beat pacing and product placement i.e. the cars they drove. The "short story" also did appear to be stretched quite a bit over the duration of the film, which made it feel like it dragged. Overall a solid 3/5.

A Company Man - A Korean version of Hitman, guy wants out of the company he carries out hits for, the company doesn't like this so decides to order a hit on him. The car fight scene which is set inside the car is probably one of the best fight scenes I've seen in a long time. The end shoot out is a little silly and "amateur" looking, despite the reasonable production value of the rest of the film. 3/5

Pacific Rim - Regret not seeing this in IMAX, I probably would've appreciated it more if I had. It just doesn't seem as good even at 1080p on a 42" TV. Not enough Jaegers fighting Kaiju, well certainly not enough from Chemo Alpha and Crimson Typhoon, both of whom looked a lot more badass than the other two featured. 2.5/5

The Internship - The Wedding Crashers 2? Slow and tedious to begin with but picked up near the end. An alright feel good film. I did find Owen Wilson's nose was more distracting than normal, so for that the film drops half a point. 2/5

The Heat - More awkward comedy, watchable and had it's moments. Sandra Bullock still has it, and I still would. 2/5

Fright Night - The remake, while not a touch on the original, it's still a decent comedy horror. Colin Farrell does a better bad guy vampire than a comic book villain. 2.5/5

I Wish - A touching Japanese drama about a group of kids who set out on an adventure of their own to make their dreams come true. Great acting from such a group of young actors and actresses, and it made me shed a tear or two at the end. 4/5

The Heat, 7/10. I enjoyed this (token chick flick to watch with the misses) but then I do have a soft spot for Sandra Bullock...

Star Trek - Into Darkness - 7/10

Not quite as good as the one before for me but very good nonetheless.

Pacific Rim - Sure there isnt much plot to it, but its gigantic robots beating the shit out of seamonsters. Knowing that, theres really not much more I could have expected. 8/10

This Is The End - Extremely funny, but completely fucking weird storyline. Danny McBride was brilliant and Michael Cera had me in tears of laughter (He gets off his face on cocaine and hits on Rhianna) 7/10

World War Z - Id like to critique it, but Im really not sure what the fuck I watched. Why name it after an extremely popular book if youre not going to follow the storyline of the book? 3/10

After Earth - Didnt make it past halfway through. This film is DIRE. The acting is dreadful, the storyline is dull as fuck and the CGI is terribad. Also, Jaden Smith is not going to happen. Stop trying to make Jaden Smith happen. 1/10

Bullet To The Head - Dreadful. Cop meets mobster and they work together to catch a murderer. Utter shit. 3/10

Dark Skies - Sci-Fi horror movie (but set on Earth in modern day) that doesnt really hit the mark. Got bored halfway through but managed to finish it. The ending didnt make up for the start. 5/10

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Cack. Very drawn out for the sake of making it into a trilogy and it suffers from a very slow pace and somewhat schizophrenic jumping between characters and their past. Im not a LOTR fan though, so that likely affects my judgement on this one somewhat. 6/10

Identity Thief - Semi-decent comedy, let down by yet another one of those "And we all learned a lesson and never did the bad things again" endings that Hollywood seems to love so much. 6/10

Maniac - Surprisingly good serial killer flick told from the point of view of the serial killer. Literally. The film is shot almost entirely from his viewpoint, so it can get a little gruesome in places. Id say this was heavily influenced by Drive, based on both the aesthetic of the film and the soundtrack.... infact Im going to check the Drive soundtrack to make sure they didnt just steal the soundtrack and use it in this film. However, Elijah Wood is the least convincing serial killer in the history of film making. Well worth a punt though. 8/10

Movie 43 - Take an unbelievable cast (Seriously, check out the cast for this film. It may just be the best cast ever assembled for a comedy) and have them make a series of dick and vagina jokes for a couple of hours. Thats basically it. There is no real "plot" to speak of, its just a series of unlinked sketches. The first "sketch" is a joke that a man has his balls under his chin. Utter shit. 3/10

trance - a meh 5/10, stars james 'needs a slap' mcavoy, situation partially recovered by supporting cast which includes that bloke from dobermann and a lass with cracking norks. tries to be too inceptiony and hence up it's own arse overall

Pain & Gain - Enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. Michael Bay can actually direct a decent film when you take his special effects and explosions off him. Dwayne Johnson was superb in this, the other 2... not so much. 7/10

Man Of Steel - Finally got round to seeing this and wasnt disappointed. Ive hated Superman for many years now (Oh you can do anything in superspeed, with superstrength and whilst flying and you only have one weakness that is incredibly rare? Well fuck you then Supes) but this film really helped to change my mind. I expected action but what I didnt expect was what basically amounted to a 1 hour fight scene. Loved it and would watch again 9/10

man of steel was ok to good, the action wasn't the best, the effects were a poor in a few places, redeemed by the darkness which wasn't expected compared to the campy originals and generally some very good acting. liked the odd image from the originally zod film recaptured but it felt as if something was missing - 6/10

Django Unchained - 9.2/10

I can't get enough Christoph Waltz either. It's strange and frustrating that we, outside of Germany, have only recently found out what a brilliant actor he is.

Worlds end - 3/10.
Just didn't find it funny at all really.

Hangover part 3 - 5/10 - Best part was at the end of the credits, says alot about a film.

Man of steel - 9/10 - Great film, brilliant fight scenes.
World War Z - 7/10 - Good film, Brad Pitt is a cunt.

The Conspiracy by Chris MacBride.

Really enjoyed it. Don't really like 'found footage' films, but it's good for thrills. Builds atmosphere well, if you let yourself be dragged in.
