Wonder Woman. Absolutely no idea why people have been raving about this. Crap story, crap sfx, awful slow mo every 5 seconds in fights. 3/10 at most.

Life. A solid 8.5/10 for me. A bit Alien in places and with some decent moments of suspense.

Dunkirk - Amazing tour de force - 9/10 - think some CGI extra little ships in the long shots would have helped scale as already been said.

Cop Car - What a cracking little film. Stripped back storytelling, cinematography looks great, manages to build a good deal of tension in the last 30 mins.

9/10 (Genuine hidden gem)

Dunkirk was excellent, just brilliant. Saw it at the BFI IMAX and it was the best thing I've seen in a long time.

My wife has a deep objection to the use of any soaring music in war films, and thought Brannagh's character was prone to be a bit too much staring into the distance being a bit cheesy.

I'm not of the view that films are records of historical fact (although shit like U571 isn't ok) but thought this article was quite interesting in highlighting some of the differences between the film and te acts it depicts. In particular I hadn't appreciated the relatively limited impact of the little boats (without downgrading their heroism).

Tried Mr Right last night on the basis of TBK's review.

Thought it was shit. The Wife fell asleep after 25 minutes.

A lot of that is fairly pedantic to be fair, but then the whole reason Dunkirk exists in the national consciousness is because it was always propagandistic myth, particularly with regards to the flotilla. Its pretty understandable why the war time government played up the spirit of the common man

Lets be honest though, the most annoying thing about the spitfire scenes is Hardy's inability to lead his targets properly. I can't be the only viewer watching him pull the trigger half a second late every time and having an internal gamer twinge

Yeah, I didn't add it as a criticism, more as just an interesting article that made some points that I didn't particularly care that the film didn't make, but which were interesting all the same.

Yes! I was thinking, 'shoot man!' an awful lot. But that's more the directors fault than the actors!

I thought the main use of the Little Ships was in ferrying men off the beaches to the destroyers. Not in actually crossing the channel carrying men.

I had the exact same reaction! By the end I was squirming in my seat I was so frustrated with him. Still, mad pro skillz to shoot down a stuka whilst gliding.

You're probably more informed on your history than I was (in my head I had them ferrying troops back across the Channel), although from reading that article it sounds like The Mole was really absolutely critical.

Anyway, the only criticism I would have is the completely tone death PlayStation advert for Call of Duty WWII beforehand.

One interesting tit bit in there is that the choice of sea routes out of Dunkirk were restricted by what I assume were our own minefields

Ghost in the shell, beautiful but meh.
They could have done so much more but seemed to have spent the budget for the script on the special effects

Atomic Blonde - Good, but could have done with being a bit more "to the point". As it was, it was about 15 minutes too long and some elements of the plot werent explained in enough detail, whereas others were explained in too much detail. That being said, the story is good and the fight scenes are incredible. Think original Bourne trilogy or John Wick sort of level, but filmed in the single camera shot style (you can tell the cuts between stunt actors and main actors, but the effect is nonetheless impressive). Oh and the soundtrack is absolutely brilliant too. 7/10

Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Great fun, although overall felt much less happened than in the 1st film. 8/10.

Valerian - Shite. Was convinced it would be a film made almost entirely by its visuals rather than story, so I went to see it in 3D. Waste of time and money. It doesn't look that good at all, the story makes no fucking sense (there's a point where one of the main characters says "something about this mission doesn't make sense" and I thought "... What fucking mission? Nobody has been assigned any missions!") the acting is DREADFUL and despite opening with a Bowie song, the soundtrack can't make up for it either. Not the worst film I've seen this year, but I'd comfortably put it in my worst 3. It's not offensively bad like King Arthur was, it's just boring. 2/10

Spiderman : Homecoming - 7/10. It's a good , fun solid Spidey movie. Better than the garfield versions , the banter with Iron Man and Happy is great. But... it's the third high school spidey , that for me is just so done. Perhaps as I get older I buy 20 year old plus actors playing high school students less and less. Keaton is good , but doesn't get enough to do.

Atomic Blonde - 7/10 maybe a 6/10 ? It's a good fun actioner , Charlize is Charlize so she looks suitably gorgeous whilst kicking ass. Its from one of the guys behind John Wick , so the action sequences are great, stun work is great. It's got a classic 80's soundtrack going on. The plot is absolute bobbins and loses itself about 30 minutes into the film. Ignore that and it's a fun flick.

You know what? In a film with Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen and Rutger Hauer (For all 5 seconds), she was actually the best actor in the film. As far as indictments on the director go, I think thats pretty damning. Oh and on that subject, Clive Owen deserves a lot fucking better.

Great film. The missus was watching a series a few weeks back, some spin off from EastEnders, and the girls who played Imelda Quirks and Natalie were both in it.
