Maybe. But it does reflect my perception from the limited time I spend on the topic. I get my perception from party leadership and their representations in the media.

No one comes across as honest, intelligent or strategic in thinking. They spend their time making minor policy or economic tweaks which probably make little difference in the end. The biggest piece of strategic innovation they can come up with is a new train line or an extra runway. An extra % on tax here, one less over there.

I honestly believe that the grey meaningless politicians make little difference to the country with their useless policies, and most changes come from people and companies reacting with their economic environments.

I also think Boris island was actually a good idea.

Any politician who’s referred to by their first name should be avoided at all costs.

And Boris Island was a terrible idea.

I think Ferg was referring to building an island and shoving Boris on it. The modern day St Helena if you will.

Why would we need to build a new one when we still own the original though? Napoleon's house is owned by the French these days, but I'm sure if we explained who it was for Mr Macron would gladly accept a new tenant.

Your point? Buffoonery != opinion or policy. Though granted I've seen through Brexit that his opinions and policies would be dishonest, and he's just as bad, if not worse than a lot of them. I believe he'd be nearly as bad as Corbyn now in the PM stakes.

Depends on the circumstances, but if it’s rapists and murderers I struggle to get that worked up about it.

Yes because we already deport all British rapists and murderers that came from another country. Oh wait, we don't do that.

About the individuals or the adherence to using their ambiguous status to garner the support of bigoted idiots by way of dog whistle racism?

About the individuals. My comment sounded harsher towards Lung than was intended, I get the issue, I don’t love the inconsistency but it’s really not something I’m that bothered about on the list. I think it’s less dog whistle racism and more the fear of a Daily Mail / Express headline.

Not clear to me what the difference is. Either way it's slightly disturbing to note that serving a sentence or paying a fine is no longer the end of a persons punishment. I'd be somewhat put out were my mum sent back to Ireland following her speeding charge and subsequent fine a couple of years ago. Obviously that's quite unlikely though because she's white as fuck.

The info coming out of the Labour conference re a People's Vote is bloody confusing. Everyone seems to be hearing that there won't be anything about withdrawing from Brexit, but some places are reporting that the wording has specifically removed the section about a People's Vote only being on the terms of Brexit.

It’s a total mess (or fudge, to be generous), but your last part is right, they removed a proposal that any future referendum (which is one of only a number of options) only be on the terms of a Brexit deal. That said, John McD’s out there this morning saying they respect the vote.

Brexit is Labour's biggest problem - can't blame them fudging it; their card carrying members mostly hate it whereas many of their regulars voters will never forgive them for sabotaging it.

I can’t blame them, but at the same time this is the biggest political decision for Britain in the last 70 years and Her Majesty’s Opposition are nowhere to be seen.

McDonnell sticking to the “Remain won’t be on the ballot” position.

How will he vote between Chequers and No-Deal?

I listened to that in the interview in full this morning on the way in and despite thinking McDonnell a bit of a dinosaur I thought he trod a fairly clear path. They're trying to force an election to mandate the deal. If they don't get that election then they'll push for another ref on it. Seems quite pragmatic to me.

Yeah but he's saying that Remain won't be on the second referendum, whereas the wording on the referendum only being about the style of Brexit was removed. Those two positions can't both be true.

I suspect his fall-back option in the event of a vote against the Chequers proposal is not no deal but 'we'll renegotiate with Brussels' - i.e. to conveniently ignore what Article 50 and the EU Withdrawal Act say on the basis that those will be fudged for these purposes.
