Post Forth Bridge World Heritage status

Now, many of you, especially outside Scotland, will say: "it's just a bridge", but to us, and now, it seems to UNESCO, it's a gorgeous piece of British over-engineering, as lovely as the Eiffel Tower, just a thousand times more useful.

"The distinctive red bridge has carried trains over the Forth since 1890.

Scotland's other World Heritage Sites are New Lanark, St Kilda, the Old and New Towns in Edinburgh, Neolithic Orkney and the Antonine Wall.

The award puts it alongside the Pyramids of Egypt, the great Wall of China and the Sydney Opera House in terms of cultural significance."

Interesting factoid; HMS Queen Elizabeth, which the Royal Navy will try and squeeze underneath the bridge sometime next year, is actually 12000 tonnes more massive than the Brig' itself, despite its huge size.

Heavy Metal meets Heavy Metal; British WWI Grand Fleet, too big to fit in and around Rosyth, had to berth down past the bridge. The Firth of Forth was a Fortress in those days;

"Though regarded as a Scottish icon, it was designed by two English engineers, Sir John Fowler and Benjamin Baker, and took eight years to build at a cost of 3.2m. Seventy one workers are known to have been killed during construction."

It's just a bridge.

Got to be better then London, which is currently building a bridge, which isn't a proper bridge, because you can only approach either end of it by stairway or lift, and features mainly trees as its USP. But hey, it's Lahhndahn Taahhn, and those nutty geezers'll get away wif anyfing, innit?
