Trickery pic of the week #4
Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset
Google maps: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...22223&t=k&om=1 If you’re facing the sea, the Clavell Tower is on your immediate left (the photo was taken below the tower by the side of what’s known as the Clavell Pier), and the bay is in front. The ledges are all along the coast. I really want a shot of the ledges in a winter catchlight. The photo was taken some time after sunset (the sun sets way to the north west at this time of year beyond the adjacent headland) looking eastwards. I took a photo from these stones last November: http://www.milouvision.com/archives/...8088568/101540 In yesterday’s photo I wanted a triangle shape for the shore and it helped that the stones on the immediate foreshore are oblong which to my mind suggests a sense of movement. There are surfers in the water but the long exposure has blurred them form the photo. I just experimented with various exposure speeds. I kept the aperture at f/16 to try to ensure front to back sharpness. The moon was pretty bright so I used a 0.9 ND grad. This is the RAW image slightly adjusted. I didn’t want blown highlights but by looking at the histogram, I guess I could have gone up to 90 seconds. ![]() This is a snap of the post processing – a tweak of levels and curves and then as an after thought a very slight stabilisation of colour balance. ![]() This is definitively a place to return in winter and for when there are clouds. When I was here last November there were 4 or 5 photographers all lined up for their shots. Cheers |

without sounding too cheeky ... is there a link to the full size version of the image, or are you charging ?

I love those misty water shots, very atmospheric. Well played!

Thanks a lot for the write up Milou.
Remember to select Jamey or me for the next sh.... ![]() Joking aside how come you are still using Pixmantec's Raw convertor software, Capture One Pro would suit you and your 5D a whole lot more mate.

I've tried C1 pro but couldn't get on with it - guess I'm set in my ways with the RSE.
The Kimmeridge shots would improve no end in about 2 or 3 months. I've a shot of this http://www.clikpic.com/markbauer/photo_41783.html and I'm thinking of having a tutorial day with him - http://www.clikpic.com/markbauer/gallery_4307.html Last edited by milou; 04-Sep-2006 at 19:13. |

I've gone back to RawShooter after a brief spell with C1 Pro now as well. Find RSE so much quicker for browsing/deleting/comparing and much prefer the way it handles noise. C1 can do a nicer job on super-clean, well-exposed ISO 100 photos but it still takes ages compared to RSE and there's not very much in it, quality-wise tbh.
