Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

BBW what in your opinion would be better for movies etc. tablet wise?

Some kind of Android device? I'm in the market myself but don't just want a media player but an all-in-one, and having had a shitty experience with my Samsung Galaxy S (liked it to begin with, ended up hating it and getting an iPhone 4) I'm hesitant about the Galaxy Tab or other Android tablets...

At the same time I don't like many aspects of the iPad!

What exactly is there out there that does everything well without Android style lag building up or Apple/IOS restrictions being built into the hardware and software?

Fondle. Have a damn good look at the Asus Transformer Prime (TF201). Storage wise it's hard to beat having SD, MicroSD and a USB host and at 16:10 it's much closer to native aspect. Icecreamsandwich on it's quad core beast of a cpu is a completely different experience from honeycomb on a Galaxy and it comes with a keyboard dock that doubles the battery life. Superb traveller. There's no SIM capable model yet but you can tether it to just about any modern phone and that ceases to matter.

Also - MX Player Pro is a good player app which allows you to zoom/crop/expand/etc almost any ratio of media to satisfaction.

It's superb kit - the only question I have about mine long term is how the hinge/dock fares over a year or two. Although the keyboard units aren't very expensive if it dies outside of the year.

Regarding the missus - World of Goo and being able to win all the time at Draw Together should swing it.

Another shout for the Transformer Prime. It is without a shadow of a lie a fucking ace tablet. Slapped a 32gig card in mine for MOAR storage. Have the whole of parks and recreation series 3 and 4 in 720 on it with enough space or a bunch of films.

Also. Angry birds on a large screen is a Mrs please.

You played siegecraft THD dave? That's quite comedy. Resist the temptation to buy coin though - makes it far too easy.

Already got an Archos 10inch tablet I use alot for movies, browsing etc, so she plays angry birds on that. Reason for looking to upgrade is mainly about the speed increase I'd gain, as the archos struggles and goes slow / locks up quite often. I take it these new tablets with spinky processors and loads of ram suffer none of this?

I'm almost convinced lads....

Im yet to see any stutter. And I'm lazy with shutting stuff down. It just eats up what ever I throw at it.
That's my experience.

and I take it, it comes with honeycomb installed and I simply update the software via onboard firmware option to Ice cream sandwich? IE: I don't have to do an unofficial upgrade?

I get a good 8+ hours when I'm hammering it on the tablet alone. The dock gets me another 8-9.

Yeah honeycomb installed. You get prompted as soon as it gets a connection pretty much for ICS. Then one after for the camera.

Might be a silly question, but can you detach the keyboard from the dock? In other words can you stand it up looking sexy on the coffee table when it's not in use? Does it not charge through the dock, then? And is it worth waiting for the HD version that's on the way?

No keyboard and dock are integrated. No you can charge each separate. Have a look at the Asus transformer prime folding screen cover if you fancy a nifty stand for out of dock.
The 1080 one will be slightly heavier and will have a shorter battery life by about an hour. Also it will be about £100 more by the looks of it. Given all of that and the small difference I expect the resolution jump to make I won't feel hard done by when it comes out. The prime is still staying on sale and not being replaced by it.

Next question, is the microsd card hole in the tablet or the dock?

The tablet has both - the dock has just micro but also has a proper USB host so you can plug in other storage.

Also regarding the above questions - in addition to seperate charging if you wish - the dock CHARGES the tablet up when it's seated and neither are connected. Really obvious yet useful move.

Speed wise - you literally cannot trouble that Tegra five core whore of a CPU. It's a frigging monster. I've got screens packed with widgets, running a load of apps up - games. Literally nothing bothers it. In benchmarks it's so far ahead of everything else that it maxes out all the current benchmarks. It's the best android experience I've seen personally. I'm using it daily now (admittedly with access to a decent windows remote desktop for completeness) for work and play.

Yes to the first half.

Second half - hard to say without pricing. It goes back to the other conversation about res, on a relatively small screen there's very little to distinguish 1080 content from 720 if they're both decent rips.

Did we mention the micro HDMI connector?

Mobile Dock:

Sorry - regular SD in the dock. And a proper chiclet keyboard, two button touchpad, fleshlamp etc.
