I don't care if it's a trailer of a trailer I fucking love that film and the remake looks brilliant. I only hope though that they retain the truly savage level of violence that gave the first one such authenticity. If that movie lands with a 12 cert I'm going on a rampage.

See that looks rather good. The problem is, as everyone has said, is that the original one is still really good. This one will be compared to the original, hell I was doing it in the trailer alone, and it will fail to eclipse it.

Other than a visual update I really don't see why they made this other than to gouge wallets.

well ive just popped onto IMDB and apparently the reasoning is.
The original Total Recall short story was never set on Mars either. The Mars thing was just for the Arnie film.
But thats a shite argument as the short story is like 4 pages long and would never have been known if it wasnt for the fucking Arnie movie. As such its just a mediocre futurisitc Bourne film

I can understand that. Put it back on mars and you end up aping the last film. Relocation keeps the fundamental concepts but stops you railroading yourself.

Plus - look at it. Carnage and shit. What's the problem?

The problem is, Colin Farrell isnt Arnie. Im not going to start claiming that Arnie is the greatest actor that ever lived, but you cannot deny that he had a unique presence on the screen. That presence got him voted in as Governer of California!

If you remake an Arnie film you have to put somebody in the role with their own unique presence that makes them stand out. Im thinking Christian Bale. Colin Farrell is a decent actor sure, but other than being a pretty face, theres nothing that makes him stand out from the crowd.

Bad CGI on that fight sequence at the start, but other than that it looked fairly decent. MAssive Genius at 0:22 and Harold at 0:42!

Looks good to me hopefully follows the premise of the orginal short story, the original move is a classic saturday night action fest

The plot (which I recently discovered) could be done so much better than the first film manages to pull off to be honest, you can't make a film like that then litter it with inconsistencies like they did.

In a post-inception age a new total recall could be quite interesting if they don't completely screw it up. While Bale would be great, Farrell is still a better choice than some meathead action star, he was good in a similar (slightly confused chap) role in In Burges.

Anyway didn't the plot line from PKD basically just resolve around his visit to recall, he was the most important person on the planet...and they put him back in a cab
end of story

so PKD short story
Arnie oriented great action romp shoot em up
Piers Anthony novel based upon the concept of the movie and then given a bit more sci-fi depth

so where does the new one fit in...they don't go to mars?
is it just the same idea but recycling from the original and not bothering with the arnie version?

looking at the cast list, looks like more than a nod to the arnie movie

It'll probably be ok , but they've taken so much plot from the Arnie film you kinda wonder what's the point. Especially as they have lifted so many familiar elements and yet dropped Mars.

I'd rather see a completely different iteration rather than a freshly suited and booted version or god forbid someone puts the money into a new actual idea.
