There's guides literally all over the shop. Dota, HON, LoL, etc. Most are comparable in principle.

We play loads of HON on the nodaddy mumble.

BUT - the problem you have is that it's pointless for you to play at the same ranking as mates initially - and it's pointless (and impossible sortof) for them to play at yours. You either have to get a posse of newcomers together as per the article or just wade through the 2-3 solo weeks until you're slightly less of a burden to anyone slightly proficient.
