The article doesn't appear to mention that the abbey in question had precisely no german troops in it, the german co refusing to place his troops in the abbey) but several thousand local refugees.
We bombed it shitless anyway having ignored intelligence to the above. ggwp.

Was reading an article about this film coming out. It suggested 1/3 of losses on Allied side was from friendly fire. Appalling if that's the case..
