It's not news as such, the forces are on the end of a mighty axe, reserves are supposed to take up the slack, and the UK already has a massive reliance on private contractors. This could very well be storing up trouble for the future though.
One would like to think that these "Private Warriors", for the most part, are honourable and at least as professional as they were whilst in the services. Recent experience in Iraq & elsewhere might suggest, however, that there are enough bad apples in the barrel to really screw things up down the road... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-Military.html ![]()

That book mentioned in my sig was interesting in this respect. It mainly concerned the activities of a US-owned outfit called, iirc, Triple Canopy, but it also went into some of the "doings wrong" of what used to be Blackwater Worldwide (subsequently called Xe, which sounds like a pile ointment or something, and is now called Academi, which sounds like a modelling firm, perhaps quite apt, as many of their operators seem to be posers...).
One consistent thing about Blackwater, the most often used description of them in Iraq, as far as Fainaru could make out, was "universally despised", and I mean by everyone, fellow contractors, the military, the Iraqis, you name it. They can't all be talking shite? ![]()
