So, the Kindle fire...

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008UAAE44

Will be finally making it to UK shores officially and, I think, at a very enticing price.

£159 and £129 (HD and regular). I should think they'll sell like hot-cakes, even with the imminent announcement of the iPad 7" (so the rumours state).

Not a big fan of the overly-large bezel around the HD one though.

Oh, and just seen this: "Includes special offers personalised for you and sponsored screensavers."
Quote:
You'll receive special offers, personalised for you, and sponsored screensavers directly on your Kindle Fire - including offers on items like Kindle accessories or products from our digital catalogue of kindle books, apps, games and MP3, plus many more.

Your offers display on your Kindle's screensaver and on the bottom of the home screen-they don't interrupt you while you're using your Kindle Fire.
Hmmmmm, I'm OK with ads in free apps on my iPhone/iPad but I'd be pissed if they appeared in general use. It'll be interesting to read the first reviews and get opinions on the pushed ads.

Further reading on tech sites seems to suggest they do only appear when the device is locked, or simply on the home-screen only, so maybe not when actually using apps.

if you use it for porn, then the ads will be like free copies of razzle and you won't actually buy any more online editions... they didn't think that one through

//hopes never to be sat next to someone reading 'porn' on their kindle on public transport... icky unless it's a fit chick which i'm guessing would be unlikely - more likely to be an awkward conversation...'alright there rainy'

My Kindle has these adverts on it. It was bought in a Best Buy in the US and apparently its an "exclusive deal" that Amazon has with them. They really arent that intrusive and are often just offering money off certain books in the Amazon store so I dont mind. The only obnoxious ad Ive seen was one that pretended to be the prologue of a book, which made me think Id left the device on.

Minty, you tried this http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets...ndle-20111225/ ?

Alternatively...

Amazon has included an option to turn off the Special Offers on the latest (K4) generation Kindle from your Amazon account. The only downside to choosing to do so is that it will cost your $30, therefore taking the price back up to the $109 you would have had to pay anyway.

Turning off Special Offers is really easy to do. Just visit Amazon and login to your account. You should then be able to see a Manage Your Kindle button or link which you need to click. That will bring up your Kindle options and there should be a Subscribe column. Load that up and then edit the options to turn off the Special Offers and pay the $30.

As I said though, I really dont mind them. Only one of the adverts has actually been successful with me and thats because it was a Jack Reacher novel on the cheap.
